Well!,one of the subjects is Programming Fundamentals which you will have to study in your 1st year course.
If you didn't have CS in your class 12th,then ,you will suffer and it will annoy you even more when you realise that you have opted for COE,IT and SE streams and you have to study it for 4 years .It is considered to be one of the most easiest subject for the ones who studied it in class 12th.

Be clear with your concepts.Obviously, you will suffer with your marks in mid-sems and end-sems if you are not clear with the concepts of the subject. In 1st year,it is all about C language which you need to learn in a very efficient way.Not just it will help you with scoring in exams but also you will learn about coding and for that you must be clear with the language!!

Learning a language benefits you since then you will be able to learn other important languages like Java,C++,Python etc.

Don't worry!!You will learn how to proceed once you get start with it.

TIP-Try to practice from online tutorials and websites. It will definitely help the beginners.

 In your text books,

DTU recommends 'Let Us C' by Yashwant Karnetkar and the teachers also hope you to study that book but in my opinion it is the book which will not at all help you grasp your concepts. It only focuses on reading.

If you really want to learn C,I will recommend you to choose other book than 'Let Us C'.

I found 'Programming in C' by Stephen G. Kochan very good.It is detailed and all concepts are provided very well.

Either you can read it via PDF(

It all depends on you how you are comfortable learning.
